Introducing the Wild Kingdom Collection, a scene-stealing set of maximalist art lamps inspired by the majesty of nature.
The monumental Big Bambu floor lamp series is a first in several respects: It’s the first series we’ve made using contemporary (i.e. non-vintage) traditional Japanese parasols; the first we’ve made at such an outsized scale (though it does have a forbearer); and the first that required a blowtorch.
Though Model No. 042 is one-of-a-kind, did not require a blowtorch, and wears a vintage shade, it's part of the family, nonetheless. (The prettiest sister, if we’re being honest.)
It (she?) consists of a triple-tiered, terra cotta-tinted cast-plaster base, a lacquered 1.5” bamboo column, and an extremely rare vintage rice-paper shade with a hand-painted trompe l’oeil stained-glass motif, seaweed-green lambskin-and-brown-leather finial, and glossy black lacquer accents, constructed from a vintage (c. 1950) Japanese parasol.
Unlacquered brass hardware, a chocolate-brown cloth-covered cord, and a vintage-style plug complete the modernist vibe.
A signed, single-edition art lamp handmade in New York by artist Christopher Tennant.
